What in Instant Ocean Reacts with Bleach?

I was titrating various water samples with a 50 ppm bleach solution and monitoring changes in ORP. New salt water prepared with Instant Ocean instantly neutralizes bleach. Only after an amount of bleach that would have given a ~1 ppm solution did the ORP climb.

I assume thiosulfate is not part of the salt mix but could vitamins or some other organic be present? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, tocopherol (vitamin E) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) are reducing agents (aka antioxidants). I think Instant Ocean reef crystals have vitamins in them.

There's likely a bit of ammonia. That might cause some issues. I don't know what all the ingredients in IO might be. Maybe some chelated metals?

Thanks, if true, this would explain the results and the carbon source for bacteria growth in NSW.

Are you testing Instant Ocean, or Reef Crystals? Reef Crystals definitely have added organics.

Instant Ocean was tested.

Reef Crystals claim to have "extra amounts" of elements and vitamins which might mean there are some in Instant Ocean.
