i had one do the same thing and it discarded the foot on its own. I wish I could hasve seen this thread earlier to let you know it would be fine! hopefully the open wound doesnt contract any bacteria!?
They sometimes get aborted by the clam after being disturbed (collected), and if not... often require removal (you trimming with sharp scissors) before new threads will be issued (we want this... so the clam attaches to a new rock for its long-term safety/defense). Its all good
Always offer clams a flat rock to attach too... even if intended for display on a sand bottom (bury the rock)
