what is attached to my clam?

would you like to see the video to tell?

I am assuming what i see in the lower right of the picture are bypassal threads... I did not cut anything like those.

i had one do the same thing and it discarded the foot on its own. I wish I could hasve seen this thread earlier to let you know it would be fine! hopefully the open wound doesnt contract any bacteria!?

yep... as Johnsteph10 stated: byssal threads.

They sometimes get aborted by the clam after being disturbed (collected), and if not... often require removal (you trimming with sharp scissors) before new threads will be issued (we want this... so the clam attaches to a new rock for its long-term safety/defense). Its all good :)

Always offer clams a flat rock to attach too... even if intended for display on a sand bottom (bury the rock)

Anthony :)

Thanks for the reassuring me... The clam is still looking great... Thanks jdieck too;)

The clam was wild collected so that makes sense...
