Hi all,

Can I ask a question to all of you? What is growing on my 6 month old 90 gal tank? I have no fish in the tank yet. I have been busy with work and family.

Strange stuff is growing in my tank. Please see pictures attached.

Any feedback?

Thanks
Phil

Looks like red cyano on the sand. I think the white things on the glass could be some type of tubeworm? Don't think whats on the glass is bad but cyano is not good.

green hair and red slime algae? I'm a newby, but have been having issues with the same stuff since adding rock. I think it leaked out of my rocks that were not fully live yet when I put them in, and my phosphate pad didn't get changed soon enough. Not sure, have read those cause it, also, I read that a UV sterilizer helps keep algae under control. Ordering one now. If you get a solution, post it please. Good luck!

Can use chemiclean to rid yourself of the cyano if it is indeed cyano. Be sure to increase your oxygen levels in the tank with a air stone or something like that and do a 20% wc the next day. Good luck.

you have green hair algae, then cyanobacteria which is the red stuff and the white things on the glass ARE NOT tubeworms they are harmless pineapple sponges.

Great..Thanks for the feedback

Great..Thanks for the feedback.

Will the red stuff go away with time?

Strange thing is my tank is empty. I used only RO/DI water. I have a few live rocks that I thought I cycled long enough. The dead rock I bleached and cycled for 5 weeks.

Thanks
Phil
