what is happening to my anemone?

this just began happening about an hour ago, all my parameters are normal, what is this? it looks like is turning inside out, please help!!!!

you need a stable tank for anemone's. usually 6 months to 9 months, and sometimes a year. it depends on how stable you keep the parms. if i were you i would return him tomarrow for store credit or swap for something else. JMA,

that carpet anemone looks to be dyed with coloring and those usually dont do well in captivity...

I agree it looks dyed. It may be just expelling waste. If its sick returning it will not help. It will just die faster. The only thing you can do is leave it alone and keep the clowns away from it. Good luck.

well I think it was crapping 'cause a whole bunch of black sediment in the form of solid waste came out, and now is back to normal...

just a question, i'm new at this so please forgive me, but why do you think is bleached?. I bought it from a very well known, reputable place in south florida with very high standards in marine life and reef preservation, they had also a very nice green carpet anemone but i chose the yellow one , and is not that yellow is more like a pale yellow, is just the pic. but anything is possible, i guess, please educate me, I don't think my LFS is in the business of scamming people, they well known in the state for their educational marine tours and reef preservation...

all my parameters are 0 my calcium is on the low side (315)but i'm treating now....and yes is eating and craping like crazy....it loves raw shrimp...

bleached anemones dont come from bleach they are reffered to as bleached when they have expelled all their zooanthelle (sp?) there are many cases where they recover from this

the stress of shipping kills many of them and they will usually recover
a yellow anemone like that is most likely a bleached green but only one way to find out you have to keep it alive wich from the looks of it will be hard

if it is dyed i dont think your LFS would have any part in that

well first off reef tanks and wet/drys just dont mix. in a reef system you want low nitrates and wet/drys are nitrate factories.

what is your lighting like?

yellow is usually what a bleached green anemone looks like!! or it could of been dyed.


also over feeding a anemone can kill them, so what is your feeding regime like? and what are you feeding?

2 10000k mh, 2 hrs in the morning, 4 in the afternoon, atinics, 4 hrs in the morning, 4 hrs in the afternoon, nitrates nitrites ammonia, 0...ph 8.4..calcium 315 as of today, 20 gallon water change done today, phosphates 0, they eat silver sides, krill, shrimp, liquid plankton, coralife smorgasm liquid filter food, plus iron, iodine, calcium, stronium,

thats what your tests read,what brand?

do you test for iron or iodine? dont dose it if you dont test for it

so thats what you feed the tank or have you seen the anemone eat those things? if so how much and how often do they eat?

instant ocean small powder pockets test kits, i do test for phosphtes, calcium, iodine and iron which are different tests kits i bought because the are not included in your standard kit, i just fed the long tentacle anemone a whole silver fish and ate it ( this is my other anemone) she's about 6 inches in diameter and half to the "yellow" one and ate too...when I took the pic, 5 minutes later it had crap all over the mouth (solid waste) now is back to normal, i feed them every couple of days.

i would get some salifert tests especially for nitrates
