What is my camera worth?

What do you think I could get for my 30D (few years old, mint condition: no dings, no scratches, no fading)? The 30D with battery, strap, and 28-135mm lens?

I just figured out that my workplace has a canon accommodation right now and the 50D is 1k$ and the 5DMkII is 2.1k$. I think if I'm going to sell mine and go for a new camera it might as well be the full frame.

Please tell me your thoughts.

Thanks.

Looks like the body is worth $450-$500 and the lens is worth about $250 (to anyone who hasn't used one yet, $100 to one who has)

I don't know if it has a shutter count? I looked in the manual for it. When I just played back an image and pushed info there is something that says 100-6154. Is it the number on the right?

Pretty much a new camera it seems to me anyway.

I know I want the new camera but my mom thinks I should quit spending the way I do and save up for a new car. This just seems like an extremely good deal to pass up though.

2100 is a great price for the 5D mk2. Its a great camera. As for the 50D, 1k is not that great of a price. Good luck with your purchase if you do purchase.

I'll be buying it regardless. The canon deal ends at the end of August. I didn't want to drop the money for it now but I think it's stupid not to buy it and know you're probably going to be buying it anyway at the end of the year or next year anyway.

I just figured I wouldn't use my camera then anymore and would be nice to have the money to put toward the new one.

Do you own the 5DMkII Shinninja?

I have a 50D and am very pleased with it. Yes, I'd like a full size image sensor like on the 5DII but at double the price for the body I was willing to "settle" for the 50D.

It depends on what you shoot really. The 5D (either) isn't a "sports" camera. It has relatively slow fps. Also, if you're used to the range that you get with your current body you'll feel all of your lenses get "shorter" on a full frame. If you already feel that you need more magnification then the 5D will exacerbate that issue.

Now, on the other hand, if you shoot landscape or architectural where the large pixel size really shines it's an amazing camera.

I have nothing around my area needing a wide aspect really. I just want it because it's a nice camera.

What Doug said. I went from 40D to 5D mostly to open up more opportunity for wide angle shots. I didn't/don't shoot sports, but I work with kids a lot and they move fast; with the 40D this wasn't an issue. I improved my technique out of necessity and all else fell into place. I don't miss the fast shutter speed much as I miss live view. If you have need for full frame the 5D and 5DII are sweet cameras.

Doug did you ever upgrade? The more time I spend with my 5D the less I think about upgrading. In all honesty I doubt I'll upgrade until the mkIII is out in a few years; by then I'll have a new faster computer, more skills, and more good glass :)

I don't shoot sports either. I really don't need the camera I don't think. Is there anything a full frame camera will do to help picture quality? I read somewhere the 30D is somewhat soft whatever that means. I just wanted it because it looks like a very nice camera. Probably no good reason why I exactly need it. :)

The features looked cool to me.

Video (nice for the fish tank).
21 mp for cropping and printing
"zoom" in 10x to achieve perfect sharpness
High ISO with no grain
Digic 4
Better screen

Just a lot on the camera appeals to me. I figured one day down the road I'd buy a full frame. Just at $600 below list it seems like it would be stupid to pass it up.

I haven't yet but have several friends who have. It does have some things that I'd really like, like live view and built-in sensor cleaning but I'm so happy with my images from my current 5D that it hasn't been very compelling.

How are your friends liking it Doug?

I just find it really hard to put myself into upgrading to a 50D from a 30D for a grand where I really want a pro camera.

I don't exactly need it like I said. I shot my friend's concert the last weekend and it was horrible at ISO 1000 on my 30D. I had a lady in to my store who had the 5DMkII and she said at 6400 there was no grain at all. I just think that opens up a lot of capabilities there. I normally shoot outdoors. There isn't much around here to take shots of, but I like the nature thing. I think having a wider lens would be fun to play around with.

I'm more in high hopes that the camera gives me better photo quality.

Yeah I can think of plenty of other ways to spend $2700 right now :D

Nitro - if you can get it for $2100 and this is the body you want, then you should probably pull the trigger. It's a double edged sword though because you're going to "need" a lot of expensive glass to stick on it. 21mp is a doubled edged sword too... one that I'm not quite ready to pick up.

Let's not forget the low noise at HIGH ISO and full 1080p video.

Couldn't care less.

Yeah, the video is neat but not a selling point for me either. Excellent IQ at ISO6400 is biggest selling point for me. Live View is close second, new screen nice too. But I can live without for now... have to really, darn economy has me down lately.

Just noticed the thread was still going. I ordered the camera. I'm not sure when it'll be shipped though.

Thanks for all the input.
