What is the best Alk/calcium level for sps

I say try slowly bumping it up to 9-9.5 and see. Testkits are not always that accurate. If things look better then great...
I see better polyp extension when kalk dosing, raising the ph to 8.4. Do you use kalk?

Lower alk is safer for what reason idk but carbon dosing etc will burn sps in a high alk tank. I stay at 8, close to nsw.

Nope I dose Randy's two part solution with an auto doser. I think my Alk is fine based on others comments here.

stability is key..But I wonder how stable the calcium/alk is in the wild! I am sure it comes and goes as fresh calcium rich water passes over the reefs

This is a question I never even thought about. I just assumed that it was always stable. Does anyone have any documentation or studdies that will prove or disprove the above statement. It would be interesting to see what reall goes on in the reef? I would be intersted to know more about the coral refs in Australia as that's were I would like most of my sps to come from.
