Someone in the Zoanthus forum made a pretty bold statement that its the people in the hobby that drive prices way up there not stores.
$600 per polyp... $1200 for the frag... well, if some hobbyist buys it at that price, I guess that statement will be true.

Too bad it's not a nicer looking paly. Maybe if you buy that OE paly, you get a freebie frag of Eagle Eyes or something :D

I'd be tempted to buy them to prop and give away for free, just to be a wiseguy. Too bad I'm not made of money :)

The reason why the price so high is because they don't grow. That makes it super rare  ... Xenia don't grow in my tank also. Does anyone want to buy it for $100 a stack?? I called it Elite Super Xenia :D ..

There was a guy selling 4 polyps for $600 or something like that not too long ago in the selling forum. Talking about saving $1800  .... Wondering if it was sold :D ..

If those Paly's grow slow for that guy, I wonder what in the world he is doing wrong! I get Paly's that are almost identicle to grow like weeds! But every tank is different I guess.

So someone bought Xenia for $400!!!! That makes me a millionaire ........ sweet I can get that boat I always wanted, Cristal will flow like water and I might have a shot at dating that super model!!

See you guys on the next episode of Kribs!!!

"Supply and Demand" and "what the market will bear"...

Look at housing (or actually...don't)

Hey, remember when Rose Bubble Tip Anemones sold for $300? Now people give away free clones!

And don't even get me started on how much I paid for 4 MB (FOUR MEGABYTES) of RAM in 1995. (I can get SIX THOUSAND MEGABYTES for the same price now).

Seriously though, if GSP didn't grow like a weed, I'll bet it would be quite pricey too. I mean, it's bright green with a great purple base, and it looks really cool.

well, when you have nano that you sunk 10k in that is sitting on your desk, another 10k in frags to fill it isnt much. but unlike house prices, you cant wait untill the price goes up or the zoos multiply and refi the the tank! So does anyone want to Refi their house and buy these zoos? I offer great 2nds!...lol

Hhhmmm, it might be another expression of "this is not for sale", but if you really really want it bad, you can have it for that price. :)

What make the irony for me is I used to have 2 polyps of those as I visited him during my biz trip in Miami last year. No, I did not pay that price as in that time he was not listing that price. He is really a nice guy and had 2 nice tanks. I think one of his stuff get a Tyree AE. I don't think it is something wrong with his system, as he has many other zoos & palys that are growing fast. Now the bad news is, they became an "expensive dinner" for my imperator angel. There are many other zoos that this angel did not touch, but this angel ate that 2 polyps plus 2 other polyps of my PPE in front of my eyes. You know which angel this is, Tyler :)

Yeah, it's no biggie. I mean, you can ASK for whatever you want, it doesn't mean someone will actually BUY it from you. I mean, it's not as valuable as say, a cheese sandwich that looks like the Virgin Mary, but someone might pay for it. And if they don't? No big deal, he just drops the price and sees if someone else will buy it.

You know, a week (a friggen WEEK) before my car was totalled (it had depreciated too much to make the purchase of tail lights worth it apparently) I had a $650 brake job done, which I enjoyed for a week and then they were gone. If I had bought this polyp instead, who knows? That way I'd have a polyp at least! (Or say, a 20 inch LCD computer monitor and iPod and a bottle of nice scotch).

Well I think it is the end user that ends up making those corals as pricy as they are. If no one is willing to pay that much, then store owners and farmers would be sitting on a growing electric bill to keep them alive.

It's all about what we want in our tanks, to me those "Envy Orange" don't look that impressive to me, they're kind of a dull orange color with quite a bit of brown mottled in, all things being equal they are not impressive in the least. BUT word gets around there are no others like this and all of a sudden the comic book/baseball card collector in all of us start drooling over them and the like, who cares if they are an unimpressive looking coral they are RARE! OooooooooooooohooOOOoOooH!

I have some of those same types of corals that were brown for the longest time, moved them to another tank with t5 lighting and now the skirts on them are bright orange. Rare? Probably not. Cool looking? Oh definately!

So end result is between me and the "collector" my tank will look a lot more vibrant after any given time with large mats of zoanthids rocks will be covered with everything while his will have a bunch of frag plugs sitting around with slow growing corals and about the only thing that'll be growing on his rocks is coraline.

1997 Ford Probe GT. I got rearended by a van at a traffic light (car in front sat when the light turned green, guy behind me went forward, I was squished in between). The back end of the car is all reflectors and llights and with depreciated value and hard to find parts, the insurance company wrote it off. It was a good car, though sadly named. Well, the insurance company gave me about what I could sell the car for, so it wasn't TOO bad.

But the brake thing had me ticked off big time. So, shoot, I coulda had me some orange palys! ;)
