what is the nicest blenny out there

So many cool blennies I could not say which is the nicest.

This pic is not good quality, but the blennie is great.

+1 for starry blenny, had one for years. By far the most character in my tank! Just got my new one today, very excited!

iamwhatiam52,

Various species are found around Florida, the Carribean and the Sea of Cortez. From what I understand they are common in sandy, sea grass areas. An area where it can be harder to collect, and not an area where many fish in demand are collected from.

I have a LFS that knew a diver that had got the one I had before, but this diver no longer freelances so I am out of luck. I have put requests in to just about every On-Line retailer, but no one collects them. Just have to keep looking till I get lucky and one gets collected by chance.

Good luck finding one. I have never seen one for sale and have been looking for anything like it since the first time I saw your avatar.

Years ago, as a scuba guide in St. Croix, there was a tiny blenny living in a worm hole on a reef that I visited for several years. It was less than 1/4" diameter but as spunky as can be. It would take bits of food from my fingers. Never saw it more than half way out of its hole, but I'm guessing it was no more than 1 1/2" long.

iamwhatiam52,

Probably was some type of barnacle blenny. These are available every once in awhile.

If it "looked" kind of like a pike, but was really small it could have been an arrow blenny. Seen once of those scuba diving before. Funny thing about seeing that was when I surfaced everyone was talking about the reef shark that was cruising around us, and I had no idea that it was even there because I was looking at a fish for 10 minutes that was about 1 inch long. Missed the 4 footer... ;-)

Nope. Didn't look like a Pike Blenny. Just a cite lil' blenny.
It is a shame we don't see more of these and other odd little creatures for sale.

I've squandered many a dive looking at tiny gobies, shrimp, crabs, trivia cowries and such.

Is no sand OK for blennie? and will a tailspot or midas attack SPS polyps?

My tailspot has no use for sand, and while I've never had a blenny that needed it (like some wrasses do) I can't remember if there are any that burrow...I think that's mostly with gobies.

I've never had a midas blenny attack sps but I have had one tailspot that did, I had to pull him out. My other tailspots were fine though.

A midas was one of my favorite fish beautiful and tons of personality.Bought a stigmata blenny yesterday and it looks like another great addition.

My stigmata blenny was great looking and not something you see in everyone elses tank, but he never took to prepared foods and after eating all the algae in my tank (wasnt a lot to begin with) he starved.

Pics dont quite do him justice, the red was flourescent and extended head to tail, but only showed up at certain angles which is why you only see it on his back half in the photo.

I have two tail spot blennies with a lawnmower blenny in one tank. The tail spot blennies are bolder and will eat frozen food as well as grazing on the rock and glass. The bicolor blenny in another tank and the orange spot blenny in yet another tank are nice, but they don't like to be out of their hiding spots if they know I am around. Finally I have a horse face blenny in yet another tank. He is very bold and fun to watch.
