I want to say it's diatoms but its hard to tell really.

I'll someone with more experience chime in, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you for sure what it is.

I think diatom usually appears when cycling, but my tank is two years old now :headwalls:

true that why I wasn't sure.

Have you added anything to the tank recently either chemical or physically?

I'm pretty sure diatoms are not just when your cycling I think they will show up when ever there is excess silicates in the water

What do you use for water changes? tap or RODI?

Yes, I did 20% water change yesterday with RODI (TDS=0) after cleaning hair algae. And add 500ml of Seachem Phosguard

Pic is so... psychedelic but are you sure its not just the hair algae growing back?

And do you have results of a phosphate and nitrate test?

Thanks mcgyvr,

Sorry, I will take the better pictures. My tank has green hair algae problem, usually it takes few days to grow after cleaning (this algae looks brown).

My tank is 1,110L (display tank is 920L) and running 500ml of PO4x4 and 1L of biopellet. Main pump 9,000LPH, power head around 40,000LPH. To decrease PO4, I add 500ml of Seachem Phosguard temporarily in few days.

My NO3=10. I have a HANA 736 PO4 tester, unfortunately the reagent packs are out of expiry. I call HANA but must wait until 3 weeks.

I'm from Vietnam, where has no many reefers and most of thing must be ordered from oversea. How suffering when we have problem with skimmer, power head, light ... For experience, I'm learning all of you here :)

Could be coraline if hard, but if it comes off easy probably cyano.
Thanks fishgate :)

Normally, using a siphon to remove green hair algae easily. But it's hard to remove this brown algae by a siphon, a toothbrush is more useful.

My rocks are full of coral line almost. But I haven't seen this algae after my tank was cycled

Have you tried a 3 day black out? No matter the type of algae a black out will help it get under control. I think it maybe dinos but the photos aren't great for me to say for sure. Regardless, if it was my tank, I would feed well do a 20% WC and syphon out all I could, then cover for three days and see if it drastically helps. 3 day will not hurt your corals, will they be mad? Yes, will they die? No. If it is dinos or calothrix, this should clear it up the first time (you can repeat after one week if needed) if it is ant other algae it will help get it under control, while you fix what you think may cause it.

Great advice :)

I removed them yesterday by toothbrush. Now see what will happen then

Thanks so much Dosshowgrl :)

I switch to NO3:PO4-X. Now NO3 is <1 (Salifert), PO4 is ~0.02 (HANA 736). The tank was covered and black out 3 days but they were still there. After removing by toothbrush, change 20% of water then it grows on the same places, some of them are on bare bottom (low light) and some on the rocks (medium, high light) no appear on other places.

Please show me how to rid

Thanks in advance
