If cleaned properly is it safe to have in a tank? How would one clean it? I'm not sure what it's called to even look it up.

Yep, a buddy of mine lets polyps and zoas grow all over them. you can easily snap off a piece to frag them as well.

You could get some barnacle blennies, they might use it as their home.

I have a chunk of 4 or five giant barnacles that are not only completely encrusted with coral, they are the home to my sailfin blenny.
