What is this growing on my rock???? ID please!

I'm not sure if you guys can see it, but i'd like to know what the heck that is...looks like some kind of sponge. Anyone seen this before? Is it harmful or is it reef safe? Help Please

Your probably right, looks like some type of sponge to me, I dont think ive ever herd of a bad sponge, just that some are visually unapealing.

there hazzardous if they are wearing square pants...he he he
 
there are alot of different colonial tunicates with lots of different colors, same species may even have different colors...
 
Oh, no, tunicates are desirable. So are almost all sponges. Both eat phyto: they're filter-feeders, and improve the water quality. See if you can get a clearer picture: we're curious. Tunicates are hard to keep alive any time at all. What was the origin of the rock? What ocean?

imo, it looks like a sponge. tunicates aren't difficult to keep. my large tunicate have popped out a bunch of babies. the secret is to keep a skimmerless tank ;)
