What is this on my rock ??

Anyone know what is this thing on my rock ? it looks like blue mold ??

can you take a zoomed in pic its hard to tell. might be sponges. but better pic is needed.

Is it soft or hard? Is it attached well to the rock or does it blow off easily?
A better pic would be very helpful.

It is hard to do any better with a cell phone !

I tried to scratch it with a stick and nothing move, it looks like if the rock itself changed color.... of course that has no senses ...

I just found a thread with picture that looks exactly like in my tank.
Still not sure what it is.....

In that thread they talk about corraline algae... maybe?

probably coralline algae

If it is blue, it might be an encrusting sponge. Coralline algae is generally pink, purple, maroon or green.

In fact the picture make it appear blue.
But it is really more a grey color.

Well.... it has now spread to the whole tank....

But only on rocks...

Here is a picture of the same rock a month later....

So it must be corraline...

To wrap this up, after all this time, I can confirm that it was the start of the coraline ! Everything is purple now lol.
