What is this on my Zoa?

I was looking at my zoas this morning and noticed they weren't completely open. I looked closer and this is what I found (See below)! It kind of looks like a sponge growing on it. Has anyone ever seen this and is there any possibility of saving it?

If it is a spong you can gently scrape it off the polyps, if it is a fungus you have a slight problem with them.

I would frag off some of the clean, not affected zoas. Just so you have some, in case the sponge is harder to remove than expected.
Just my 2 cents.:D

Thanks everyone. I'm going with the vote of sponge and will frag what I can and then try to scrap it off. we'll see what happens.

If you still can't get rid of it you can try doing a freshwater dip or even a lugols dip. There's not a lot iodine can't kill thats sensative and my guess is that'd be one.

What a weird find - let us know how they do!

get the zoas out of the tank and leave them in out for a few hours ( no direct light) this should kill the sponge and the zoas should be fine out of the water for a while

Why not frag off as many large pieces as possible and let the sponge grow. Its a nice color. Why get rid of it!
