Well, I was banking on the theory that this was a reproductive method of some sorts...clearly not.
Here it is 2 months ago:

Definitely looks like it is being "eaten away"...is it still worthwhile to cut away the bottom portion, or are we thinking this is a goner?? If I can repair, or at least give it a fighting chance...any tips on how to cut it?
