What is this?? *PICS*

Don't worry. Cutting is easy at first and just gets better with time.

No but seriously, make sure you clean the knife afterward if it's not dedicated for tank use--a razor or X-Acto or scalpel is best.

+1 got a scalpel with a fragging kit and it makes the job so slick, that being said, an x-acto works just as well, just make sure u rinse it very well before and after

Agree with everything said on how to fix. On the cause, look close at the coral, I had a nudi actually start eating/burrowing into mine. I apologies for not having a name as it was 4 yrs ago, first and only time had this happen.

I know leathers shed thier skinn from time to time but that dont look remotlyy close to that

Well, I was banking on the theory that this was a reproductive method of some sorts...clearly not.

Here it is 2 months ago:

Definitely looks like it is being "eaten away"...is it still worthwhile to cut away the bottom portion, or are we thinking this is a goner?? If I can repair, or at least give it a fighting chance...any tips on how to cut it?

bro, that's not really cute at all! That sucks. Still looking to figure out what the heck is going on with this thing :spin2:

Bro, stop fretting and just cut the bad part out. I think the experts that you were looking for have given you good advice. All you have to do now is take their advice.

Get to cuttin or it looks like you will definitely loss the whole thing. Don't be scared just do it, outside of the tank and rinse it in some tank water in a seperate container as Sugar suggested. You are gonna lose a lot more of it now but at least you will still have some of it.
