Can anyone identify what this is. It came on a piece of live rock I purchased.

its kinda shaped like bubbles but to me it looks more solid and . I do not know pics are too much out of focus but there is cyano on it what ever they are.

That's what my zoanthids look like when there is too much cyanobacteria on them... but IDK exactly what that is...

Looks like bubble algae to me with a coating of some coraline on it that gives it some of the purple color. I'd pull it and try not to squeeze it too much as you peel it off. You're better off if you don't break any open in the tank or it MAY spread.

Bubble algae, valonia, is a natural thing that often follows hair algae, sometimes appears with cyano coating it, which is what we have here. What is your nitrate level?

No need to toss the rock, pop or not pop the bubbles. They come and they go. You can pull the rock and scrub it with a toothbrush, but the main problem is with the tank, not the rock.

Do you have nitrate above 2?
Do you have a skimmer?
How much are you feeding?
How much skimmate are you getting out of the tank?

I bought about fifteen lbs of live rock from someone getting out of the hobby. It was sitting in his tank for a year, but i believe the tank has been neglected for a few months. I had it sitting in my QT tank for a week, but didn't see any regular bubble algae or critters and transferred to my tank. My Nitrates are at 0. using a skimmer, good nasty green skimmate, feeding once a day.
