What is this

I dipped my zoanthids today in fresh water for 5 minutes and a bunch of these came off. Some were smaller than others but what is it? Could his be a reason why some of the polyps weren't opening?

It looks kind of like an Amphipod. In most cases these things are harmless, but they have been known to irritate certain corals though. GL.

They look like pods to me ,if a bunch fell off I would have kept them.

are they good for the coral? Why would you have kept them in your opinion?

Because they are beneficial detrivores, an excellent part of the clean up crew.
