Brett (Splash of Life) gave this to me, said it was acanthastrea. Is that correct? How common is this color pattern? Just curious, thanks.

turning the lights on might help.....acans come in many color morphs....more orange more value...

If I have a 150w MH over the 29gal tank, where should this coral be placed? Right now I have it on the bottom and the polyps seem to have shrunk a little bit since it has been in my tank. Therefore I'm guessin' that these like lower light.

Big G.
Thats ACANTHASTREA SUBECHINATA
What happen part of it dead ? They are hardy give'em some time it should encrust the dead part.

Brett gave this to me. I was digging through the rocks in his tank where his coral were and I came upon this piece. It only had 4 polyps left on it when I got it. The others probably died off b/c this was buried. Glad to hear that these are hardy :) . Thanks for the species ID menard.

Another interesting thing is that there are 2 critters on the skeleton of the old acans and they have 2 white worms coming out of the center of these 1 inch spikes. The spikes look exactly like fiber optic strands. They are clear and really reflect the light. Kinda weird. They look sharp.
