does it rub off very easy or does it stick? it looks to me like a sponge i have thats growing fairly quickly, it cuts off but it grows back fairly quickly. its a really hard sponge but you can definatly tell the difference between it and coralline.

Definitly looks like cyano AKA red slime algae, looks like you might have a nutrient problem. check your nitrates and phosphates. Think about a phos reactor if you havent got one already.

ok my nitrates have been comming down still 10 my phosphates are 0 colormeter.

it looks like slime algae but it is purple it killed on of my frags:( how can i get it in check before it takes any more?

Blast it with the turkey baseter! esp if it is on coral. Erythromycin is a quick fix antibiotic, but I don't recommend using it until last resort but it will take out cyno for a time then it will come back and for your size tank the dose will be $$$$. Id change out the phos reactor media and run good carbon extra water changes and check the R/O unit make sure your TDS is at 0 may be time for filter or membrane change?
