Yup, it is Flash Gordon. It has always been one of my favorite movies, I know it is cheesy but I like it. The music rocked and I am not even a huge fan of Queen. Above all I liked the premise, that a mere mortal could be a super hero and if you read the history of Flash Gordon it is quite fascinating. Flash was basically a symbol of the allies, while Ming represented the axis and it was a sort of propaganda for WWII about taking the moral high road and that somethings have a higher purpose than your own interests. Flash was a King Features character like Popeye which as you may know was propaganda for the struggling spinach industry of the TRVA set up under FDR. Spinach was cattle feed at the time and didn't travel well so it had to be canned and it was a hard sell. As a psych major, propaganda has fascinated me. Flash Gordon is just a cool guy and I like what he stands for.
