What is your dream tank ?

Mine will be something simmilar to Pam's square tank that you can view on all 3 sides . The tank will probably be something like a room divider, with its backed to a fish room.

The size of the tank will probably be 6' X 6' and 32" deep and has a thin frame on the edges

lighting will be 6 dual metal halides on luminarcs with 250 watt radium and 175 watt Iwasakis supplementing with 4 VHO actinics bulb and 2 t5s blue plus

Water movement is done by a surge simmilar to Ocean treasure

I agree with most of that. But I'd like something 10-12 ft long, 4' deep, and 30" tall. I think with a system of that size it would need a surge device, maybe something like what Spazz designed for the St. Judes tank. Lots of MH, either 250w or 400w, with T5 or VHO supplementation. Lighting mounted on some form of moveable platform to get it out of the way while working on the tank. Like you mentioned, room divider with equipment room. Volcano skimmer and dedicated mixing and top off tanks to streamline water changes.

Jeremy oh yeah!!! and opcourse tons of Solar panels on the roof of my house to handle the power consumption D, if that is the case then maybe lets have the tank being 12' long by 6' wide with some natural lighting available for the natural effect and maybe a tidedal pool area with some nice clams

Clay I was thinking about that too but, then I would have to deal with customers all day long ........... forget about it if you are rich enough to have a dream tank then who needs to work ?? :lol:

No. Set up a seperate coffee table tank with a glass cover for the clams, and have that tied into the main system. That puts the clams at their best viewing angle, and then you don't have to worry as much about what fish go into the main tank as there will be no clams there for them to pick at.
Just imagine a 48"x30" clam biotope for you to rest your feet on and watch the tube!!!:eek1:

That clam tank sounds very interesting, but that would mean the lights have to be hidden on the bottom four edges of the glass table top. hmmm that sounds very cool

Yeah, I saw an example around here somewhere where the halide was hidden around the perimeter and didn't stick out over the center of the tank. Just put some sort of framing over the lights themselves, angle the lights toward the tank, and put a glass or plexi sheet over the top.
With that setup, the viewable section might only be 3'x2', and you could also make the sides viewble.

The hardest part would be the plumbing and power supply. It would be easy if your house was on a raised foundation with a crawlspace, but otherwise would be a challenge.

Maybe I'll play around with SketchUp later to give a better idea.

Here's the Coffee Table Clam Tank:

Just put an overflow in one of the corners and run the plumbing under the tank and either under the floor, or build a box to run along the ground and to a wall to tie into the main system. Lighting would be located in the black section, lighting the tank from the perimeter. You could always add spacers between the cabinet and the top glass for airflow, and to keep the top glass free of moisture.

Yeap that's how I was kinda envision it, but mind is more like a zero edge tank with the coffee table being the light hood that cover the whole tank.

A 20 long x 6 wide x 8 tall concrete tank. It would be dug next to the house and viewing would be through two 8x4 glass panels cut into the basement wall. A very short greenhouse would be built over the top and supplement lighting would be built in. A very large closed loop and fully automated everything. Cleaning would be by scuba.

Just my thought.
