What is your exotic dream dive?

Snorvich,

Would you recommend PNG over Palau? Is it just because of the mass amount of divers making the pilgrimage to Palau?

that's a bit of a stretch the continental (united) island hopper service to palau is what you would call hardly full. every time ive been on the flight, perhaps 10-15 Europeans on the flight, the rest of the folks are locals or passing thru to other locales. i wouldn't dare call it a lot of people....not hundreds arriving at a time. keep in mind, its remote remote remote out here. it runs service twice a week, FYI

I am, admittedly, spoiled. I consider a live aboard with 10 divers the maximum. Because I do photography, "guided" dives are really not my thing either. So for me, PNG is preferable, assuming you are on a live aboard.

I see. I was thinking you meant that the dive sites were a bit crowded, but that is good to hear :)

I too think a smaller dive boat is better; However, my fiance gets motion sickness easily so I was thinking something a little bit bigger and more luxurious (eg a boat with a max 16) would be better for her. Also, it is the honeymoon :P

I've done the kelp forests :) Lots of fun. Lots of sites off Catalina for this, and there are the giant black sea bass down there too =) However! You will be cold! :D Not too much color out there - most of the fish are a grey tone except the bold orange girabaldis. Being from Arizona, this was my 'discount' dive trip a couple years ago. Its not for everybody though.

Haha, my main experience is with "shallow" wreck dives in the Long Island and Mid-Atlantic area (50-100ft)...as long as the temps aren't below 40 degrees I should be able to handle it hopefully After your positive review, I'm really looking forward to seeing the forests. Do you have any photos??

Unfortunately no, we only took video and I only have the hard copy. I'm sure there is stuff out there though :)

Palau is amazing. Been there the last 2 years and would go back in a heartbeat. North Sulawesi is this years destination. Been once before. It is great for the weird creatures. That being said, I'm not sure either place is for a honeymoon. Definitely not on a liveaboard.

Bali Indonesia is great. I'm not a diver, but snorkeling there was amazing. so many beautiful clams and coral, it was overwhelming. Plus the rest of the trip was fantastic. i would recommend spending a few days in Ubud (seeing the market, monkey forest, temples, etc) and then spending the rest of your time on the coast.

edit: also my grandfather lives there for half of the year, he's there right now. he loves it over there

We went to qamea for our honeymoon in September and that itcwas awesome. Most dive sites were all within 25 min of resort

My dream dive would be Bikini Atoll. I'd love to dive those American and Japanese ships that were nuked. But that's me, I like the wreck dives.

Palau or the Soloman Islands. Oh and Nitrox is the best for us old divers. I use even on shallower dives because I feel so good afterwards. Not available everywhere though.
