What is Your tap water TDS?

With all the rice crops, i would expect higher TDS readings with regards to pesticides used. However, where is Woodland and Davis getting their water? Sacramento river or wells?

They both use a combination of groundwater and water from the Sacramento River. They're actually working on a joint water program to try and improve it.

Edmonton, Alberta Canada - 167

The water is quite hard here as it comes from a river lines with limestone, so lots of Calcium and Magnesium present. Of course this all gets removed with my RO/DI!

Incoming TDs between 2000-3000. What is your tap water TDS at?

My brother has always thought the water where he lived in Salinas, CA was pretty bad tuns out he was right. Even after installing a BRS 75 GPD RODI everytime he added water to his tank he would have an algae bloom presumably because the water was high in PO4 and NO3 I was never able to actually test it myself I didnt have time. The filtered water tasted way better than the tap water did at least :strange: But because the water still could be used for his Salt Water tank he asked me for help. He won a Typhon 5 Stage RODI unit at the CHICO Frag Swap :celeb1: so I helped him do a serious Frankenstien upgrade to his RODI.

Stage 1 Sediment Filter

Stage 2 5 micron acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter, removing 98-99% of chlorine

Stage 3 1 micron acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter, that removes the remaining chemicals and chlorine

Stage 4 0.2 Micron Zetasorb filter will be installed soon http://www.marinedepot.com/SpectraPure_Zeta_Zorb_0.2_Micron_Absolute_Rate_Sediment_Cartridge_RO_DI_Sediment_Filter_Cartridges-SpectraPure-SP2111-FIRORPSD-vi.html

Stage 5 Trying out a new Air Water and Ice product a Phosphate filter http://theh2oguru.com/filters/individual-filters/phosphate-filter.html

Stage 6 75 GPD RO unit with wate water plumbed into a second 75 GPD RO Unit

Stage 7 and 8 are currently the same color changing DI Resin

There is an Auto Shut Off valve plumbed in as well as a "T" off the RO line for drinking water. There is also a T off the DI line one goes to a spigot the other to a 55 Gallon drum for salt water mixing. Additionally installed a Triple inline TDS. The Permeate pump was removed because the city water pressure was so high it did not work correctly.

Careful - your proposed stage 5 filter will ADD phosphate to the water.

I am at 47-49. Is it considered drinking water? If so, 500 is the safe limit for drinking water, I would certainly force the water company to fix the issue.

To make sure people don't get confused - it's inaccurate to say that "500 is the safe limit for drinking water."

The suggested limit of 500 ppm TDS for drinking water is a USEPA Secondary Drinking Water Standard.

"National Secondary Drinking Water Regulations (NSDWRs) set non-mandatory water quality standards for 15 contaminants. USEPA does not enforce these "secondary maximum contaminant levels" or "SMCLs." They are established only as guidelines to assist public water systems in managing their drinking water for aesthetic considerations, such as taste, color and odor. These contaminants are not considered to present a risk to human health at the SMCL."

Hello Buckeye Hydro thank you for your input and clarification on the 500 TDS issue. I am curious how or why the filter will add phosphate to the water?

Because it is a polyphosphate filter - that's what it does. It is used in the industry to limit scale deposition - often in heating equipment like espresso machines and restaurant equipment. It's not used to remove phosphate.

Well you are 100% right I obviously did not do my research very well and neither did they. https://ariesfilterworks.com/products/residential-replacement-cartridges/100-phosphate I will have to give them a call today and talk to them about that.

* Would this filter still work good on a home drinking water only system where lime and calcium are extremely high in the water?

Thank You so much again for the input you deffinetely saved me a lot of headache on a product that was worded poorly then mis-marketed.
