What kind of foam

I think a nice 1/8 thick sheet of cork or anything like that will do the job. I never used anything under my acrylic or glass tank and they are fine.

I put it under my stand not under the tank to let the whole thing compress a bit. I use a level to check the floor. Use shims if you need.

I've got furniture gliders with felt pads underneath. It is level in my garage right now. If I have to shim it inside the house, I'll put dowel corss sections between the gliders and the stand, but I am hoping I won't need to do it. I'm mainly wanting to protect the acrylic from any ripples in the wood top of the stand.

Ben the foam they use under floating floors should do the trick and will crush easily to fill your voids if there are any. Plus its available everwhere HD, etc
