Not to mention this the second post of yours like this in the last week. So this is starting to look like a habit.

I don't think that you went back far enough :).

And you mean to say that comments like this don't make you want to run over and help him out and offer advice to his benefit ?

You don't need to response, just ask yourself and hope you sleep well at night knowing that you're more of responsible reefer than I am.

Actually I will attempt to help anyone who post a question anywhere on these forums, without even looking up thier past post.
This is my way of being a responsible reefer I guess. If a person has a question, you can either ignore them because you don't like thier past input/output in the forums, or you can give them an answer to help them.
If you have the answer they need and decide not to answer them because of thier out look on life, and the hobby, then who are you hurting? Them or thier tanks? It certainly isn't them that is going to suffer, or die because you with held you advice.

I think as a member of these boards if you can answer, or lead someone to an answer to a problem they have with thier tanks, then you owe it to everyone here includeing yourself to answer them.
I am sure if you looked back at all of your past post, you have been helped by many a people, maybe you were more likable, or maybe you just didn't post something that you did that others would disagree with.
If you stop to judge people rather then just help people when they ask, you are not holding up your end of humanity.
It's one thing not to give away your hard earned money to a common begger that ask you for money.
But to with hold information that you only have due to experience in your hobby is just wrong.

In the long run it's to each his own, and I am not going to stop giving someone advice, because of his past post.

You totally missed what the intent of my post was. But suffice it to say that I won't be returing to this thread.

Prodman : I second and third that advice. period ! If someone doesn't want our advice, then so be it.

Uhh sparks, do you realise what kind of fish I was asking about the first time around? It was a freakin TANG for christ sake! I was gonna keep it regardless.

HOWEVER, this post was for a WRASSE, I may not be a responsible reefer like a few of you (not going to mention any names, ahem!) But I think I know enough about a tang being reef safe or not. I don't think I can recall a Tang not being reef safe. Perhaps you have? Please tell me now before you guys grind down on me for putting another Tang in my tank that I don't know about.

You should search around the forum, you'll see that there are MANY MANY posts asking to identify something someone had just brought home. Are you going to tell them not to buy it go home do your HW and then come back?

I officially name you guys CYBER REEF COPS.

Ok just give me the damn citation so you guys can move on, you're going to have a really busy road ahead. So where do I sign officers?

Lots of experiences of tangs getting nippy with soft, LPS, clams, you name it. Pretty much everything but SPS corals. These aren't starving tangs either. They're anomalies, yes, but tangs are NOT 100% safe with corals.

I'd be concerned with a LFS that buys and sells fish without knowing exactly what they are buying and selling.

Wouldn't it be great if the LFS had a computer that you could use to research potential purchases. My 12 year old who wants to be a vet, hates the practice of pet stores selling things to people who have no clue how to care for them. She created the ideal pet store and it included a computer. I'm fortunate enough to have a phone with web access and RC is the first thing that comes up when I sign on.

Well as I said. Currently in the store I work in part time, we have a computer in the office that has a decent DSL connection. If I am not busy, and I don't know something about a fish, coral, invert I am selling I will be more then happy to go in and look it up. I will even print out a care sheet type page if I find one.
I am not sure how accurate they are, but I have yet to have a problem with the information I find on liveaquaria.com. and they have had information on just about every thing I had ever tried to look up there.

In answer to Mcurl98. The problem is, sometimes the LFS may have ordered something like a red lipped blenny froma distibutors stock list. Well when it shows up it is put in the tank as a red lipped blenny, but it is also know as a red cheeked blenny, and we actually list them as a barnacle blenny.
So a customer comming into the store may not know a fish by the name we sell it as, or may not know it as the name on the stock list, but will know it by the name more common to your area.
Some fish just have several names. And sometimes a distibutor will only give a description of a fish, like a multi colored wrasse. I ordered three. I ended up with one that actually is a multi colored wrasse, a lunar wrasse, and a lubbocks fairy wrasse. So sometimes it isn't the LFS fault that they don't know a fish, but they should be able to look it up, either by a book, or buy a computer.

I have several books in store that have full color photos and descriptions of a large portion of common corals and fish in my LFS so if a customer has a question on something we can usually find it in those book, or atleast use the books to get a good enough idea where to look to find the fish online.

I know several other stores have the books, and some have computers, they just may not know where to look. So perhaps suggesting it if you have a question they don't have an answer. Say hey do you have a computer connected to the internet, I know a couple sites that might be able to answer it.

And if they don't you might suggest it, internet isn't that costly anymore, and it is a write off on thier taxes. it doesn't take much of a computer to just look something up, and same boat, call Dell, it's a write off and thier small business computers are awesome, and cheap.

Man, I think someone needs to come up with a database of all know fish, corals, and inverts and put it on a program for stores, I could sale it like mad!
