What mode do you run your vortech on?

I have been using my Vortch 10 for about a week or so now after upgrading for a jebao, and I'm still trying to find a good balance with flow and the modes. I have been using nutrient export and just today, switched reef crest but id like to see what other use.

sometimes the flow gets so high it shoots my melanurus all over the tank, you can tell they have a tough time swimming in the current, but I want higher flow for the sps I have and to keep detritus from settling.

also for whatever reason my foxface will only eat algae from a clip if it gets sucked into the fan and spit out, so I have to keep the clip close to the blades in order for it to shoot out around the tank.

I have a 56g and use 2 supplementary koralia 450's

I'm using reef crest right now. It usually runs at the low range of the maximum flow, but every so often the flow will really turn up.

There is also a reef crest lagoon mode which is quite nice. Also the blue pulse mode is great.

I use 2 MP10s connected wirelessly on tidal swell mode. Seems to be doing alright so far. Every now and then I'll switch to Nutrient Export Mode though and let it run a full cycle like that.

I use 2 MP 40s on anti sync reef crest mode at 100% power, but I keep mostly acros, I run nutrient export mode time to time as well.

Side note: what are you attaching your Nori to??? Feeding clip?? try rubberbanding it to a small rock instead, some fish get freaked out by clips for some reason.

I've had really good luck with the Gourmet Grazer from Innovative Marine for my algae eaters. They're super easy to clean too.

Just curious on why you use anti-sync? I was trying to figure out if I wanted to use sync or anti-sync and honestly wasn't really sure what the benefit was.

We actually cycle five different modes throughout the day and night.
The day begins with a reef crest mode, moves to pulse then nutrient export after the last feeding and decreases down to tidal and then constant overnight. Sometimes the flow is pretty strong and varied but this does not last all day. I feel that this helps accomplish both goals of keeping the tank well stirred and allowing fish time to swim comfortably. I like the mix much in the way tides and patterns in the ocean change, just works for me.
(We tried the anti-sync mode. It worked better in my opinion when I had a 90 gallon and only two vortech so that they were sort of stirring in different patterns. With the 300 gallon and 5 vortech, I run them all in the same mode and feel I have plenty of motion without the tug and pull of anti-sync.)

which between constant mode and reef crest mode, at around 60% during the day. At night, they are off at 10pm and come back on at 6am.

Anti sync means alternating currents in the aquarium, as one pump ramps up the other ramps down accordingly. If you were running them in sync then they would mimic each other.

So in anti sync I basically am throwing alternating back and forth flow patterns over my rock structure/ coral which is ideal.

Oh cool, I may have to give it a shot. Thanks.

I would love another vortech. I am super pleased with mine already especially with keeping the wires out of water. Sadly I didn't buy the wireless module so I cant have them talk to each other.
