What nem for true or onyx percs?

Been doing some research before I get my clowns and I read what the books say, curious what you all say. Will true or onyx perculas host nems other than the magnifica, crispa or gig?
I've always wAnted to have true percs and a mag, but the reality of the care the msg needs may make it harder than I want, the jury is still out on that. I know i have at least 6 months but want to know all I can before then

BTA, Entacmea quadricolor,

the hardiest of the clown anemones, and Perculas use them freely.

You are right though, get your tank up and run in, and down the road get the nem.

BTA. I think all hobbyists, wanting to get into host anemones, should start out with BTA's. If you get a large healthy BTA, I can almost guarantee the perculas will go into it in time.

i have never had this luck! last time i got a fab and BIG rbta but my pair of ocelaris just simply didnt give a f!k to it at all!

then i put a gig into the tank and they just jumped into it. they didnt wait at all but just jumped in!

here r the pix

I have never had any luck with percs and bta's (only maroons). They have always ignored them in the past. Very hardy nems once you find a nice healthy one however. Just make sure you cover your intakes until it settles in a nice spot. All of my percs in the past and now will only host to the "carpet" species..go figure.

neither have i. they just dont give a f!k

but seemingly its kinda impossible to get a beautifully colored gig now

so very sad!

So interesting how the results vary. In this case time is on my side...love to hear more stories about your succeses and failures with percs and nems

I think gigs in the retail stores are seasonal as well. They tend to show up around spring and early fall for some reason.

I ended my post with the words, "in time". Naturally, given the choice, perculas will go to a gigantea over a quadracolor. It's their natural host. In most cases, if the clowns are give enough time, they will move into a BTA. Unfortunately, gigantea is a very difficult anemone to acclimate into captive life. Some anemone keepers rank them as the most difficult of them all. I would never, under any circumstances, advise a newcomer to anemones, to start out with a gigantea.

i didnt mean to challenge but guess its really a hit or miss if u give clownfish an unnatural host.

my pair stayed with the rbta for more than 3 weeks but finally fell in love with a weavemaker box--so incredible and desperate!

probably theres problem in my procedure cuz most of them say the nem and nemo are supposed to put in the tank together but i always put nemo first and introduce a nem few weeks later.

to my knowledge--surely kinda limit--ritteri is the most tender one and needs a long time to acclimate so i always try my best to avoid but gig is a little bit tougher.

and according to my observation, nemos really help nem acclimate cuz during the early stage of introduction, my nemo always just stay in the nem and nip its mouth whenever it opens.

A heads up if you want your onyx to remain black, you may want to think twice about adding a bubble tip anemone with them.

Wow, really interesting. Why will the colors of onyx fade with a bta?
I was wondering if there is a correlation between tank raised percs and wild caught with the type of nem they will host in

FYI, not all "onyx" percs fade in a BTA. Mine have gotten more black in my RBTAs over the past year.

There are a couple of threads about it on here. Nobody really knows why it happens but from pictures from other users it does occur.

I ended up getting a pair of mocha ocellaris. I thought they were stunning and figured they would be easier to get into a BTA.
