Watts per gallon is a useless measure of light in a tank. You could have 1000W of NO fluorescent strips on a tank and not be able to keep a nem. On the other side, LED lights are very low wattage, and are growing SPS and nems without problems.
As well as the fact a 29 is taller than a 30- both standard tanks. A 20 gallon tank can be as shallow as 12 inches or as tall as 24- thats where the watts per gallon is flawed. That said it still remains a good begining point. Finally I had a LTA for about 10 years under 4 normal output flo bulbs with a total of 160watts-in a 75 gallon tank. We didn`t just start this hobby when halides and PCs were developed.
I use the watt per gallon because anemones dont always go were people say they go.Iv had Bubble Tip Anemones be sand dweling.Iv also had Long Tentecal Anemons go in the rocks under about 6 watts to the gallon.Iv had Sebae Anemones go on the rocks when I had about 6.5 watts to the gallon.Iv had Gigs want to stay in the sand bed.I use this also so that the light gets to the bottom just as well as if it were at the top.Anemones are just Anemones and will go were they please.I look at it like this I dont want to live on the second floor but if I have to I will.I dont want to live in MO I would rather want to live in CA but I live in MO for now because I have to.
