what paint to use in fishroom

Hello all I'm almost done mudding my fishroom, and I'm about ready to paint.

I plan to use kilz latex2 for the primer which should lock up the drywall pretty good. Is there a preferred paint to use over top of the kilz for high moisture areas.

I didn't know if I could just use a regular semi-gloss latex or if an oil base paint.

Thank-you in advance.

I have read that the off gassing from kilz is really bad for fish. I'm sure it would probably be ok once you put your two top coats over it. Just something to think about.

ive never heard that, i would think once it dries there wouldnt be much gas being let off. thankyou for your reply

Anyone else heard of this?

Or know which type of paint would be best to put overtop of the kilz? latex, oil, semi-gloss, high gloss...

I want the fort knox of moisture resistance.

For the basement I used a primer on the first coat and was told to use a satin finish (I went with Valspar) which I coated twice.

I don't think dry paint or product is going to be an issue unless it comes into direct contact with water. Many paints and cleaners can be lethal if the fumes(particles) get into the water while painting. Since it sounds like your room is pre livestock you should be fine. Just let it dry completely before you start up!

I have a sm room (5x12) for my 600g tank and I used high gloss latex paint. I am a painting contractor and I believe that oilbase enamel is better for this application. The only drawback is that the oilbase paint will amber (turn yellow) over time. I wanted pure white in my room and thats why I used latex paint. I would definitely get a good exhaust fan... you shouldnt have any problems using latex enamel.

I would stick with a semi-gloss. High gloss may be too much. Sherwin Williams "Duration" would be a good brand to use. I'm pretty sure that's the name of it. It's a bit pricey, but works great and covers well.

Thanks everyone I think ill be looking into a high gloss latex.

I will be running a good exhaust fan an I said hooked up to a humidity controller ment for indoor horticulture.

I I'm still open to here what others used in there fishrooms still.
