this thread is going pretty good i know it will help me in choosing my skimmer in the future
i hope it will help others too:thumbsup:
so far though my choice is still the reeflo

Bubble King SM250 on my 400gal system, Awesome skimmer and was worth the price.

Stay away from the Bubble Master line until they switch to a different pump. I was running a BM300 and the meshmod in the Sicce pumps drove me up the wall, I would always end up having to blow into one of the air intakes on one of the pumps to get them to restart. Ended up selling it and upgraded to the Bubble king which is actually much smaller, but so much more efficient.

Octopus Extreme 300 on my 280 with 35 gallon actual sump volume and light/moderate bioload (five 4"+ fish, 3 blennies, 5 Grammas, 3 damsels, 2 small clowns, 1 flame angel.) I feed heavily and often but all food gets consumed. It pulled out very dark skimmate filling the cup every few days. I will be using it on my 375 which will have more fish so I'm hoping it can keep up.

I hear you regarding the BM. The start-up issues can make for an unreliable skimmer. We've lost power (for just a second or so) and then the darn skimmer won't always restart. I've burned out one pump from this when I was away for a day and the skimmer failed to restart.

Do you have a BK recommendation for a total system volume of about 245gal and heavier livestock?

I have the BM250 and I love it. but your right, a lot of people have troubles with the pumps not restarting. Before mine ever touched water I trimmed back the mesh and I have no problems with the pumps restarting.

I'm not sure what my wife would do if she caught me putting skimate in one of her measureing cups, I know it wounldn't be good though! :fun2:

My dad runs a BK internal deluxe on his 220 and love it. I'm going to run a WM K2 on my 150 build. I was tossed up between the Alpha, ATB and WM. I ended up going with the WM because it's built here in the US.

Here is mine, it is a Euro Reef prototype (I got it from Jeremy at Premium). We modified it to run on one pump with a modified wheel in a Barracuda.

Here is the modified wheel

It is running on a 800 gallon system, 600 gallon tank and a 200 gallon sump.
