Hey guys,

Setting up a 60x32x20 SPS tank. what and how many tunze would you recommend? i was thinking maybe 3 x 6125 on a controller.

thanks

6125 pumps are not controllable, I think 2 6105 which are controllable and the 7095 or 7096 would be the best bet.

Oops sorry that's what I meant. How do they compare to vortechs? I currently have a vortechs but hate the noise. Is the flow Spread comparable?

The flow has a longer reach and a narrower cone of flow, it is not as wide or diffuse as the Vortechs. I have not owned a Vortech so I cannot comment on the noise but the feedback on both gives me the impression that in both cases, some are noisy, some are not and a lot has to do with the thickness of material they are installed on and that they are installed properly. I would probably try to get some feedback from end users.

Ive owned a few Vortechs, and agree with the noise. I have owned many Tunzes, and have always sided with them for the extremely low noise. The 6105s have been the quietest pumps I have had. I have a dead silent display, and I can only hear the Tunzes when I'm right against the side of the tank- less than a foot away. Even then, they are barely audible. I was able to hear each of my Vortechs about 15 feet away.

The 6105 has a fairly narrow and long stream. However, you can also use the 6205 impeller housing on the 6105, and it greatly broadens the flow. It makes it nearly as wide as the Vortechs, but you also don't get as far of a reach out of them. I had the 6105 w/ 6205 housings and Vortech side by side in my tank, and the flow was very similar- undertow and all.

Thanks for your input guys.

Because my tank will be up against a wall i'd really like to keep the viewable end and back wall free from powerhead. Would 2 of the 6105 on a controller both on one end pushing down 5ft be enough? Will have 2 returns in from the back wall flowing towards the front glass. Because the flow will be only from one else will it create enough randomness or just push from one end?

Was also looking at adding a polario 15ml in the middle back wall hiding behind the rocks.

Any idea how much the 6205 housings are?

thanks

Aaron

Not sure on the pump placement, Roger would be better at that.

The 6205 housings are part # 6205.13 off Tunze.com, they are 48.73 each. Check the used forums, they are sometimes for sale there as well.

The pumps cover an area of 24" in diameter with 72" reach so they should be fine, the main caution I would give is that with this placement you would be best off placing corals with high flow needs nearest the pumps and low flow needs farthest away, so it may be a bit of a lopsided arrangement of SPS on one end and LPS and softies on the other.
