What salt are you using?

RC for years, but just switched to red sea regular to give it a try. Not sure I want to bump up the mag every water change though.

So in the past I have always ran Reef Crystals and for the most part had good success. The one thing I have hated about that salt though it no much brown residue it leaves in my mixing containers. I am looking to switch to another salt on my new tank and wanted to see what others were using.

Red Sea blue bucket and I bring the MG up to 1320.

Been using this salt as well time to time for years, its pretty good for BB ULNS's since its lower values. All the other salts on the market are ridiculously high alk (11-12dhk), I've added muric acid to lower the alk but that got taxing. I've never understood the theroy of using higher values / salt water changes as a method of dosing which some I guess do with these higher boosted salts.

As these other guys above have methods about red sea regular salt the only complaint is the low mg as well. Not sure why Red Sea wants it so damn low. Running 35.5ppt / 8.1 alk / 410 cal it comes out to 1100 mag which is a no no. Always bump up the mg do to this. Haven't dosed the new salt water mix batch directly with MG sub's since I normally dose the tank but I don't see why not.

Brightwell NeoMarine

Brightwell NeoMarine

Been using IO, but didn't like the results. In the process of switching over to Brightwell NeoMarine. I use their other products and am extremely happy with them.
So I mixed up 50 gallons yesterday and tested the NSW. I will be doing 5 gallon water changes every other day till I use up the 50 gallons to ease the tank into the new water. Then I'll make another 50 and repeat the test to see if I get the same relsults with the new mix.

As advertised on Brightwell's site mixed to a SG of 1.025:
pH 8.3
Alk 7.5
Ca 413
Mg 1290

My results mixed to a SG of 1.026
pH 8.25 - Milwaukee
Alk 8.62 - Hanna
Ca 463 - Hanna
Mg 1350 - Salifert

So it seems to mix pretty close to advertised, and I k
Like the numbers. Time will tell how the tank likes it.

Anyone else using this salt?

I use salt Probiotic Reef Salt for 3 years. It's really similar to natural composition of sea salt. Do not disturb the processes in aquarium. I would recommend it to all.
