I started out using Coralife Scientific Grade, it was a good salt, had good parameters and mixed well. It was hard to source so I changed to Red Sea salt. It always had low alk, Ca and mag, would never completely mix. I have now changed over to Tropic Marin Pro, it mixes very well and the parameters seem to be fine. I have not tested a freshly mixed batch though yet, but I don't need to adjust my parameters in the display as much as I used to. I'm mixing up a new lot for a water change today, so will test params on this lot.

Cheers,
Dave.

What does hard to source mean?

What does hard to source mean?

Just means that I live 2 hours drive from the nearest fish store and the only online store that I could find that stocks it, wanted a fortune for freight. I need to have a brand that is practical for me to source on a regular basis. Tropic Marin Pro looks like fitting the bill nicely so far.

Dave.

i can't believe reef crystals are so popular with alk that high. RSCP for me, calcium is a bit higher than i'd like but that saves on the part A cost.

KZ Reefers Best and trying a bucket of TM Bio-Actif at the moment. After that I think I'll switch back.

I use Crystal Sea Marinemix Bio-Assay, and look to be the only one so far in this poll. I've seen the stats on this salt listed before on here, and I can tell you fist hand those results are bogus. I've never checked the CA below 400, but the other two are pretty much spot on.

I use it because it is made local to where I live, the price is right, and my corals tell me they love me for it.
:)

I just dropped red sea coral pro (price was killing me, but great salt!), but didnt want to get into the IO mess.

I had been using crystal sea on my fish only systems without a problem, so i just switched everything over to that. I have not tested Ca or mag since the first batch, but it was also higher than the tested numbers (not much, but at or around 400 and 1200). DKH seems spot on, and like you my tank does not seem to be any worse for the cheaper salt.

Also its cheaper than IO in my neck of the woods.

TM Pro Reef.

I just switched from IO about a month ago and the difference is amazing. Bought a 32 g box at first and after the first WC I went out and bought a bucket. Great stuff...corals just look 10 times better and the low alk is perfect for where I keep my levels.

Me cheap, I buy Coralife which is the cheapest @ $10 a bag 50gal mix. Works, but since hobby has come down to $'s, so not many options when a penny matters. Almost to the point where I have a cardboard sign, "will work for a bucket of TM Pro".
