What salt do you use? Table salt, instant ocean? is there a value brand?

If you set up a sump with full access, it makes water changes easier. I just shut down the auto-topoff, dip water out and toss, pour in new water every few days.

DO understand that non-reef salts are cheaper and appropriate for a fish-only, but if you have a reef, reef salts are indicated. If it is a reef salt it will generally have the word reef in the name and cost more.

Here is the Miriam webster's entry for "biweekly" (adjective)

http://i.word.com/idictionary/biweekly

I saw someone said something about the definition and looked it up and was floored that it was in there like that. And all they listed was a footnote that semi weekly should be used to refer to twice a week to avoid confusion... Why the heck would they take the time to list a footnote instead of just listing the definition as common understanding. I now agree with you... it is a stupid word :lolspin:

biweekly is a stupid word. people mean water changes every other week, not twice a week.
I have a 55g tank, and at 10% weekly (I think stable is better) I spend $75 a year on Instant Ocean Reef Crystals. I would guess a 100g would be about twice that.

Salt is important cause it is like the ocean dehydrated, so you have all kinds of trace elements in there that the animals in your tank need. Like vitamins for the coral and fish. That's why you want to use pure water, so that hardness in the water or other impurities don't throw off the balance.

+1. Though bimonthly would be every other week right? lol.

I also aim for 10% but do changes on a 40/80 with 5 gallon buckets so it ends up more.
