just wondering what you guys think the next piece of equipment i should invest in should be.All i have is a skimmer and the phosban reactor from buck that is comeing. any other sugestions other then ro/di unit.

RO/DI unit would be the next thing on my list. As long as your skimmer is a big enough size, and from what I understand, your light is a good light, the RO/DI should come now. I wouldn't even worry about your flow right now...that can come later. Get the water quality up first. Get all the test kits you need too. Eventually, you may want to do something with kalk or calcium reactors, but again, your 2 part can do that for you as long as you're faithful in measuring your levels.

AquaController Jr......I'm a fan of the autopilot tank, especially during summer.

Wavebox or controllable streams (koralia,Tunze,Vortech).

do you have an auto top off on your tank. that also makes it a lot nicer. never have to worry about swings in the salinity then. they are fairly cheap and easy to diy.

i dont worry about top off i can do that manuly. i think im going to have to invest in a new ro/di unit . anyone have any good brands they use . and were i could get a cheap but good unit.

thanks,
matt

You need to SLOW down, you have been told this many times. I really dont think offering the PO4 reactor is a good idea. Maybe later.

ok now im really confused i thought you guys wanted me to get the equpiment i would need to keep the tank healthy and stablize it befor i add any life.

Matt - I think the point is you are posting every day about something different. just look at some of your recent threads:

1. What equipment should you buy next

2. how should you frag your mushroom

3. How can you build a frag rack

4. Making Waves

5. WTB powerheads

6. Wanting to buy frags

7. wanting to buy zoas

the point of going SLOW is to go SLOW. Don't THINK about anything else right now except stablizing your tank, eradicating your ich problem, eliminating your nuisance algae, etc. And do nothing for 4 to 6 weeks Except that. Don't think about anything else.

To that end, the only thing you should consider right now is the RO/DI unit. It will help with your water issues / algae. I actually agree with Buck the PO4 reactor is a bad idea for you right now - all that will do is put a bandaid on a much bigger problem.

Take your time - start using quality water, give your tank time to mature and then think about other things in a couple of months. Its only then would I consider adding a PO4 reactor or anything else for that matter

If you're really serious about an RO/DI unit, check out BulkReefSupply.com... That's where I got my unit, and I'm very pleased with it. Here's the link to the one I got http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/RO/DI...RO/DI-5-Stage-*PLUS*-System/product_info.html

If you buy any unit from them, they'll send you a free float valve, which you could use for your RO reservoir. An auto-top off is a good idea if you don't have one yet. Even though you say you can do that manually, it's much better to have it continually keeping it topped off... The salinity won't jump around on you, and your temp should stay more consistant since you won't be dumping in a bunch of colder water.

But to answer your question, RO/DI unit first, then you really need test kits. You shouldn't worry about frag racks, fraggin corals, or wavemakers right now. There's nothing wrong with doing research... just make sure you don't burn yourself out by buying un-needed stuff, and not fixing your current problems. We all want to see you advance in this hobby, and be successful, you just gotta take our advice.

ok how bout this guys, ill invest my money into qulity water with at ro/di unit i cant go wrong there. im going to but a phosphate test kit and also new alk. and cal. test kits. is there any objection to these purcheses.

not yet i dont think i will i found a form that shows how to mod. a walmart light timer so it revolves every min. instead of every 24 hours. its easy and i can use two to make my wavemaker. the guy had his runing for 5 months with no problem and even if they do break there only 5 bucks. so ima give that a try and it gonna give me some extra money for the test kits and ro/di unit. if i find the form ill post it and when i make them ill let you know how it goes.

Just forget about the waves all together. RO/DI and sit on the tank for 6 to 8 weeks no matter how good things seem to get. I'm gonna go so far as to say to STOP! Don't SLOW down, just STOP.

I can understand your ambitiousness to get your reef going. Tell you a little secret (dont tell my fiancee) I dropped over $4000.00 on my tank before I got it right. I didnt take it slow and I paid the price....literally.

I bought a Solaris H1, cost me 3k and it was a huge POS. And now PFO is out of business.

I tried ozone, waste of time. Cost $500.00

I bought a Odysea fixture for my first light. Cost $400.00

Heck Im now recovering from a partial tank crash. I put my Kalk reactor on my Aquacontroller and screwed up the code. Used on at 03:30 Off at 03:02 instead of :32. My ph was 9.6. All my sps slimed like crazy, only lost a tricolor and some expensive and rare wrases.

My BK is still pulling out crap. This happened on Monday.

So you see Matt, if I would have took my time and added a 3 instead of a 0, this would never have happened, I also added a command to stop when ph goes above 8.3 to make sure.

wow buck seeing that even you can crash a tank is makeing me think i have no clue what im doing what the hell can i make go wrong .ok im on full stop mode except for the ro/di unit defintly dont want to screw up everything. and cloak your right i can forget waves right now i have all next year to think about that i think i got the right mind state now ro/di, ro/di, ro/di and thats it for a couple moths like you said even if things look fine.

thank guys
matt

ps:buck hope you fixed everything sucesfully.

wanted to put this up here i found someone off one of the sell forms. He is willing to sell me a 4 stage ro/di unit for 75 plus shipping. Is there any questions i should ask other then how old it is and how used were the membranes?

Age of pre-filters, (but at the cost of these, I'd just replace them anyway). Age of DI. Does it come with a TDS meter?

EDIT: Though the more I think about it, if you don't know the person, just get a new one. If you have trouble with it, it will cost you just as much.

miatawnt2b i was thinking the same thing out aqua world they sell a 4 stage. with all the things you could posibly need for 130. with shiping from this guy were ever hes from im probly looking at around 100 anyways.
