What should I do with this half dead frag?

Got this (birdsnest I assume?) frag from a friend who had some issues with his tank at one point and and a majority of this colony looked to be dieing off. I have had it for a little over a month now and it's starting to color up on the top that sees the majority of the light, in which case I have my lights semi low right now. I'm wondering if I should take the lower section that's obviously dead and cut it off and attach the live part to a frag plug? Or leave it and epoxy the whole piece to a rock and leave it be?

Leave it or cut it. Doesn't matter. It's quite common for birdsnest to die off at the base when they get big from shading. That's not the case here, obviously. You can cut the base and frag it up and glue the pieces to a plug or rock and let it grow into a colony.

I wouldn't bother cutting it. Its not one that just keeps dying when it starts at the base. I have a couple that lost some tissue at the base due to algae problems and it stopped once the algae was fixed and has eventually started to grow back on a couple. No big deal.
