Well guys I have been looking at a tang for my 90 and the ones i like are sailfish scopas mimic and purple I love all of them but I have heard mixed reviews such as a scopas getting the same size a sailing and a scopas being as mean as a purple so could I keep any of these fish if I start out with juvines and and them last thanks

I would say no on the sailfin, they get huge practically overnight. I think the mimic should definitely be fine in a 90 gallon, no problems there. I feel like the scopas would be fine too, but I have never kept one so I cannot be sure. the purple in a 90 is a big maybe. If you buy it young and have no other tangs in the tank then there is a chance that it would be perfectly fine, and stay a model citizen its whole life. There is also a chance, however, that it will turn into a homicidal maniac in a tank that size, and slaughter all other fish in your tank. I would say if you want to try it, put the purple in last and have no other tangs in the tank.

These aren't clown triggers we are talking about. I know they can aggressive and boss around but not kill everything, they usually only fight other tangs from the zebrasoma family.

Thanks! No matter how many other threads you start, you are going to get the same answer and that is no sailfin and no purple tangs! Stick with a mimic, the temptation is always there but you cannot fall into that pit. What most people do not realize is that a fish with the aggression of a tang can and will eliminate any fish that it feels are taking up its space. They will keep going until they feel comfortable, which may not be until you have him as the only fish in the tank.

I think you would be ok with th purple tang. I have seen alot of 90s with purple tangs and even other tangs in the same tank and reporting good success. Alot will depend on the personality of the tang you get. I have had fish that were semi agressive that ended up being very peaceful and fish that are peacful turn aggressive.

IMO mimic tangs are highly under rated. They've become my favorite tang for behavior, size, hardiness, nice finnage.

How long were the tangs in the tank? You can't say it worked unless it has been years, which I highly doubt s purple tang would be able to go years in a 90 for years as the only tang, let alone with another tang in the picture.

i think im going to get a lemon peel mimic after watching their behavor in videos i like them and i think ti will be better for the fish

All fish aren't the same.

You are correct, but success is not measured by weeks, months, or a year. Success is when you have your fish full grown, or a few years. The chances that any tang in a 90 gallon aquarium is going to tolerate another tang for its entirty is very slim. IMO I rather not waste the money and time on keeping all of those fish only to have them murdered by bad judgement and taking a risk with the odds stacked against you.

Dragon, good choice on the lemon peel. You will not regret it!

Not in my experience. My purple became very aggressive over time, no matter if the fish was a tang or not. I have since trapped and sold him so I could add other fish. A good friend also has the same problem with is 10 year old purple tang.

As far as the OP question, definitely not the sailfin... My vote would be the mimic or scopas.
