in my tank, i have a small (nano size) clown and a coral beauty angel. the clown doesnt seem to ever explore the rocks and almost seems kinda lost. id like to get an anemone for it but i dont know how easy/hard they are to keep or even if my all in one bio cube can support one. OR should i get it a companion clown, and if i did would they fight get along, STILL need an anemone, or bad idea period? it might be ok the way it is, but it just seems kinda lost in my little tank.

how long have you had the clown, most of the time it takes awhile for them to adjust to there new habitat! Even if you did get an anemone your clown may never host it, IME tank raised clowns don't like to host as well as wild caught clowns.

They school when they are babies, so same size should get along. Anemonies put out a lot of ammonia when fed.
I have the perfect RBTA, but I can't get at him, about the size of a dime(needs to eat, put stays hidden from light). If it gets up where I can peel it of the rock, Let me know if you are interested.
Oh, small variety RBTA might work. Moonpower in Alb has small RBTA. A few inches across compared to a foot. I will be traveling to Alb sometime in the next two weeks.
Raising Nano anemonies, what a thought.
Xena and athelia are good subsitutes sometimes.

A small Bubble tip would be my choice. I have a green BTA that gets to a max size of 3-4" that splits about every 3 months or so. I can let you know when it splits again if you'd like.

AZ, if your running stock lighting on your BC 29, I suspect you're going to need to upgrade. There are a couple of kits and choices.

My maroon clown goes back and forth constantly between my two green BTAs. I send the lighting comment though because anemones like strong lighting.

No one can say for sure if they will match so I suggest getting an anemone you want in your tank for its own sake and then if the clown takes to it, bonus!

If you do get another clown, i'd do it now while yours is small, and get another small one that is really close to the same size as yours.

But like someone above said, the clown may never be hosted by the anem. I've had great luck with leather corals, toadstools in particular. My clowns took to that very quickly

for the sake of the new guy....
what is a BTA or RBTA?? (bubble tip anenome?)
I'd certainly be interested in whatever anyone is fragging that could be a possible host. what about frogspawn or hammer corral do those ever work?

It has been documented to happen, but from what I understand, the clown hosting in a frogspawn or hammer is an annoyance to the coral and will cause it to retract it's polyps. Don't want that to happen. (it is rare anyway)

BTA = Bubble Tip Anemone
RBTA = Rose Bubble Tip Anemone

Try and find someone who can get you some leathers, or mushrooms. Those are good alternative hosting corals.

I have some giant bumpy brown and green shrooms that my small retarded maroon gold stripe host in. They are in my wifes tank but I'm sure she would be willing to donate one of them

I have had my clown host my flower pot and my hammerhead. Its true that its an annoyance to the coral IME. My hammer head did get use to him though. I bought a long tenicale anemone and he never touched it.

rednex, i'll take it if shes willing to part with one. if not thanks anyway. hes a pretty small clown so it shouldnt take much but he just seems unsettled and i want it to calm down a little.
i'll send you a PM with my info if she wants to part with it.

Mine have hosted in Frog spawn, a Hammer, a Toadstool leather and even star polyps. I think mine are as retarded as Rednex. IMO Just try an anemone and see what happnes. No harm done and if that doesn't work try something else. LMK when you wnat to try some frog spawn I may have some good sized pieces for FS/FT in a month or so.

Hunter, I have an osc. clown in my 12g jbj nano. Initially it tried to nest in my small torch coral, but then he moved on to my xenia. I created a bed of xenia at the top of my highest rock to thicken it up...and the clown loves it! I put in a 2nd clown (which fortunately worked because my first one was already a decent size) and they both love it--they completely nest in it, and that is a heck of a lot easier than putting an anenome in a smaller tank--in my book, anyway.
