I have 45 gallon tank with built in overflow. One 1" drain and one 3/4" return.

Return pump for sump should be rated at 3-5x display I beleive.
So I should be pushed 125-225 gph, right?

Since I have about 5ft of veritcal flexible tubing to go up, I should be looking for a pump that is rated around 300 gph at 5ft head right?

Which submersible pump is quietest? The MAG is too loud for me.
How about Eheim 1260? Its rated 475 gph at 4ft of head so i could reduce its flow a bit.

Am I right with my calculation? Which submersible pump is quieter then the Eheim and well constructed?

One important piece of information you failed to provide is the size of your sump. You want to keep the velocity down inside your sump so you should probably have no smaller than a 20G and better yet a 30G sump so you do not carry microbubbles back to the display.
I am a big fan of OceanRunner pumps and Drs. Foster & Smith has them on sale right now. More efficient than an Eheim meaning less heat generated plus cheaper.

I'm pretty sure that the volume of the sump is a little over 20 (but less then 25) but thats the entire volume of the sump.

Take a look at the OceanRunner 2500. Its on sale at Drs Foster & Smith for much much less than a Eheim and its more efficient too.
