What sizs PVC bits are ideal for small fish in QT?

I got a mated pair of ~1" Helfrichi firefish yesterday, currently being QTd in a 10. I have a bunch of 1-1.5" PVC fittings in the tank, but they don't seem to like them very much. They are mostly hanging out in nooks where the outside of the pipe meets the glass, under the heater, or between the heater and the glass.

Gave them some live brine today, which they came out and enthusiastically devoured, so they aren't TOO terrified, but they also don't look all that comfortable with the current furniture.

Should I pick up some .5" PVC fittings for them?

I've found with small fish like this that they really like hanging out under my sponge filter versus any sized pvc, but if you were to get any different size I'd suggest around 3" - 4" size pvc.

Really, that large? They seem to be wandering out a bit more today, the two are never more than half an inch apart, and slowly creep around the tank with their bellies on the back wall. I guess the black there makes them feel secure.

With small fish, I would avoid large/heavy PVC fittings that can "roll". A few days ago a baby Cherub angel I had in QT was picking at some food stuck under a large PVC fitting. It rolled on top of him and then he couldn't get free. I freed him immediately, but the damage was done (I guess from thrashing around), and he died the next day from injuries. It was a really stupid mistake on my part.
