I'm a little overwhelmed with the different options. Looking for the easiest, cheapest, and most effective skimmer for a mixed 180 including sps. Thanks.

not sure you'll find ALL of the above attributes in one unit as those are all relevant terms...

however, to give you a place to "start", for the money, I would give a look at the Vertex IN250-Gen2 skimmer...
IMO the body/neck transition on the Vertex is superior in design compared to both the MSX250 and BM200P...

IN-250:
foot print 13.5" x 11" 30" 8"
1020lph @ 55w
rated for 150-250 Gallons
and for only $320 the Vertex is likely to meet all your needs satisfactorily... ;)

good luck...HTH some

:)

Vertex seems to have a few issues with the pump with loudness and breaking, resun.

it seems many folks are replacing the pumps in order to keep them running.

the bubble magus series use a variety of pumps, eheim, aquabee, atman. the BM-200 uses a Sicce-PSK2500.
i personally think the pump is the heart of the skimmer.
something to think about.
here are two threads to give you some type of feedback on what actual users are saying between the two skimmers.

lotsa choices out there (i'm just chiming in, as i have experience with the BM skimmers, 17 months in operation, not a single issue)........good luck!!

If you go with Vertex, get the Vertex IN-280. It has the same pump as the IN-250. But it has a wider neck, and lower back pressure on the pump. Both work good, but the Vertex IN-280 seems to work a little better due to the body design. I have the Vertex IN-250, my friend has the Vertex IN-280. It only costs a few dollars more.

If you have just a little extra dough, I suggest the new SWC 250A with the Askoll 1500. It's an amazing skimmer and super affordable. It fits pretty much every catagory that you mentioned. Plus the resale on the Askoll based skimmers is going to be greater.

often overlooked but I would consider Reef Dynamics (formerly EuroReef). I've used many different skimmers and my 8 year old EuroReef always works when I need it. My MSX makes me mad every time I clean the cup with the friction fit cup removal. My MSX also seems to be made of cheaper acrylic than my Tunze, EuroReef, and Deltec. I love my Deltec running on my new sps build, but I (and others) have had issues obtaining parts for it.

Ummm... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that he's probably already made his choice.......about a year and 8 months ago....
:crazy1:

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he isn't the only person looking for feedback from skimmer owners. Cause when I was researching them I used the search feature and read EVERYTHING I could find. ;) just saying.
