I'm thinking of adding 1 last tang. I currently have a blonde Naso and a Fowleri. I tried an Achilles but it didn't make it in quarantine. So now I'm thinking of either a Purple Tang or Gold Rim Tang. Tell me which one do you prefer and why? I have a 6ft tank same footprint as a 180g. And I know the Fowleri and Naso will outgrow the tank but they are still small right now.

I have to agree that purples are jut a beautiful fish! If I didn't already have a yellow I would definitely get a purple!

go purple...
Purpl is beautiful + I think the gold rim would have a hard time being accepted by your other tangs.

I have 2x yellow, scopas, sailfin, and a purple all in my 150g reef

of course they all went in at the same time :p

and a copper band butterfly (just throwing that out there because of shape. was added later. :p)

I personally feel like purple tangs do better in smaller tanks than goldrims do, purples and yellows both dont seem to need as much room as the faster moving, more streamlined tangs.

On that alone, I'd get the purple. And then yes, I do think that purple tangs are one of the best fish out there.

How about a powder brown? One of my favorite tangs by far, underrated. Also, how about ditch the tangs you have and get a purple and a powder brown. Both would be fine in your 180 and both the tangs you have won't...

Ditch the Fowleri and Blonde Naso??!! Are you nutts?! Fowleri is my fav tang and took a while to find one. Gold Rims look better than powder browns IMO.

No I'm not nuts, you said yourself they will out grow your tank, and if its your favorite fish you should have gotten a tank big enough for it.

Gold rims are much harder to adapt than powder browns and don't have as much color, but to each his own. You said you had trouble with an achilles another hard to keep tang, so maybe you should try and easier to keep species.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh well your opinion to just give up on the Fowleri was unnecessary. Not everyone can just go and buy 8ft tanks instantly.

Then those people shouldn't have fish that need an 8' tank.

And their opinion to 'give up' the Fowleri was on track. A 180 isn't going to house either of your 18" fish long term. So their advice to give up the bigguns now, and replace with a purple and powder brown...was responsible reef keeping.

I agree, it's sound advice.
