What Tank Size is a good medium?

I currently have a 45 gallon and want to upgrade eventually when funds make that possible. Curious though as to what people think is a happy medium in tank size?

I think a standard 120g is a great size tank. I love the dimensions

Agreed, 120 is a good size, I started with a 90 gallon about a year ago and I am looking to upgrade now, trying to find a used Oceanic 156 (5x2x2). The 18" width in a 90 gallon is a bit limiting when it comes to aquascaping, I think 24" wide would be much better.

wow not sure the floor could support a 400+ gallon I am looking more in to the 90 to 120 range is what I was thinking. But figured I would ask since I know tank size limits to which fish you can have.

The 120 is a nice size tank. I like the 180, too. It's the same width and height as a 120, but the length is an extra two feet.

Here is a list of common tank sizes: Tank Dimension Chart

How much room do you have, and how much money can you invest? Those are the biggest questions. I currently have a 120g, it is the biggest and heaviest I can currently support. Big tanks are cool, but the suplimental equipment is the expensive part.

Yeah the length of the wall I have is about five feet If I go to the other wall then it would be up to eight. If I am going to go that big I know it will be a slow build. over time like I said I currently have a 45 and working with that is nice but cramped and not much for options on fish and stuff.

Yeah I was thinking about the 120 and should give me room for what I like both aquascaping and also fish selection. I know equipment is another look in to things as well for price. DOes anyone know of a good place to get tanks?

yep craig's list or your local fish group if they have a classifieds. Good way to get a good tank and have more money for other equipment. :)

That 156 is an awesome size!

Yeah I search craigslist alot and I want to start one and just really move slow with it and take my time. Like I said I have a 45 gallon and have made many newbie mistakes but it is a learnign process and now just want to enjoy a larger portion instead of a 45 but want to eliminate the newbie issues. Also I am not sure I have one in my area not much down this way as far as groups and traveling up to one with the way gas is getting.

I have a 120g, 4 foot version in the setup process, and it seems like a good size. Craigslist by me has alot of 125's and 150's listed. Seems very reasonable to pick one of these up by that route. I do not know your budget, but the going rate for those tanks in my area (central NJ/Phily) with a stand (no idea on stand quality) is 500 to 600.

The 120 would give you room to keep most types of fish. You could save a bundle by going for a 12 week cycle with only 10% live rock, all sand dry aragonite and 90% of the rock dry limestone or manmade.
