80-84. Weatherman, what coral species displayed bleaching events at this temp? What is odd is that this is still within the normal range of most reefs.

Hereââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s the reference.

For widespread, rapid bleaching events, temps around 31.5C (89F) seem to be the trigger point, but sustained, extended periods above 29C (84F) have been demonstrated to cause problems.

It should be noted that temperatures in the mid and upper 80s (F) may be common during the summer (or ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œhigh-sunââ"šÂ¬Ã‚) season, but the temperature doesnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t stay that high all year round.

Ah, ok thanks. I didn't see it in the article, but did it state the average temp year round for the particular studied reefs? I could see a bleaching event likely if say, the normal temp is around 80 and then sudden prolonged temps of 84. I can definitely see where 88.7 F temps could cause bleaching in any circumstances.

I've had issues with tissue recession in the past when I allowed my tank to get above 81. Currently I try to keep it in the 77-79 range.
