What temperature will kill ich?

Hi all,

This has nothing to do with the hospital tank or the display tank. I just finished matching parameters of each and some of the ich parasites are now probably in freshly mixed salt water. What temperature will kill any free swimmers that may have got into the bucket. It's only about 2 gallons.

I just found this, link below. 104 degrees F or 40 degrees C for one hour. Good thing we're having a heatwave! Im setting the bucket in the sun!

By the time all the ick is dead, most of the water will have evaporated... I wouldn't take the risk of any surviving! JMO.

Temp for free swimming phase could be much different than the cyst phase; they are tough. to kill with any conventional method. I can't imagine guessing that all ich phases are dead for 3 gallons.

+1 to this. Even the most expensive salt mix I know of still comes out to less than 50 cents/gallon. The cost of getting even just one tomite in your tank is immeasurable.

I agree with you both. I have not received my Cupramine yet, it should be here tomorrow. I will only use my 150 degree Fahrenheit contaminated water to use for a water change tomorrow in the hospital tank that's about to be treated with copper. Is that cautious enough for you guys? Of course it will be tank temp before I use it for a water change.

Well, since it so darn hot here..... I poured it over my head! Not all at once of course. I used a gallon and when I dried off 15 minutes later, the other gallon! It felt great! This heat is killing me and my fish don't like it much either.

What temperature will kill me? Tomorrow is supposed to be about 110. :furious:

my advise to u is same as others. dump 3 gal which costs $3. if ur heat wave dont kill ich and makes it to main tank via water changes, u will lose more than few hundered dollars depending how much fish u got in it and then u will be staring at a fishless tank for 10-12 weeks.


Edit: i see u dumped it on ur head. well i am glad it should cool u off. now remember dont eat any fish for 12 weeks and place urself in a tub fill it with water and run cupramine for 4 weeks. it should get rid of ich off ur body. lol

LOL that's funny too! I guess I have enough cupramine to pour it in the neighbor's pool and stay there all weekend! That should do it!

By the way, I have just started the hospital with copper (only 24 hrs after initial dose, copper reading about .29) and so the display tank will be fallow for 10+ weeks which started Monday. Thanks guys for the laughs, it was a good distraction from the ich infection.

2.9 copper? anything over 0.8 is lethal.
