Hey
I have a variety of sps's and hard corals and different people have been telling me different things such as they don't need phytoplankton. I feed the tank and spot feed with cyclopeeze, liquid life bio plankton and zooplankton every once in a while like once or twic a week, i Just want to know what are you supposed to feed these sps's and hard corals such as brains.
thanks

I 2nd that but thats not all :D
I like a mixture of a lot of things, I guess its just what works best for you.
cyclopeeze is good but if too much is added, it can dirty up your water, just like over feeding your fish-eee's. Add less at first and keep up the water flow, they love it.

I have a premixed little shaker containing Cyclop Eeze, Golden Pearls ( smallest size), ESV Spray Dried phyto, and pulverized colorbits. I give a couple shakes into the tank whenever I feel like it. Easy this way and this is besides what I feed for the fishies.

Bacteria.

I do feed my fish/tank other foods [CE, GP's] but am fairly convinced that mostly just feeds the bacteria before the corals really get much. Which is fine, IMO nutrients are nutrients, provided they're small enough to be eaten by the corals.

Eric B has a good series on feeding corals here:
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-07/eb/index.htm
[7 parts, each dealing with different stuff ... DOM, bacteria, phyto, etc ... pretty good]

Watch out for all those extra nutrients.
I used to feed my tank rotifers daily and baby brine like twice a week. It eventually hurt my water quality and i since then have stopped and here is my conclusion. It took a lot of time and had no added affect. Seriously.

My acros are just as healthy, and are showing great color and growth. Maybe even better now because the nutrient levels in my tank are lower now. The coral will feed off of lots of stuff in the water column, without having to feed specific foods to them.

Also homemade food is better than rotifers, cyclop-eeze etc. All these things have shells, legs, etc that have no good values to them. If you take a shrimp and hack it up, its pure protein.
This weekend I am planning to make my own fish food, however not making really mush. I am going to blend it to bite size pieces for the fish, and naturally there will be small particles that the corals will get too. Making mush with all those different ingredients really turns out to be some nasty stuff. Its just a huge polutant =D

Forgive my silly answer but I don't believe any of us here can answer with 100% certainty what is the best thing to feed SPS. Many of us here on RC feed our SPS nothing and have great success, many feed heavily and also have great success. IME, IMO, I feed nothing and have very good success so I can't justify adding any additional nutrients to my system if it's not needed.

I agree Rich.

Not to get semantic, but I thought the question was "What's the best food for SPS?", rather than "What's the best food to feed your SPS?". I see a difference, because as you can probably infer from my reply above, I answered bacteria. I obviously don't feed bacteria to my SPS, but it's fairly widely-proposed that bacteria make up the bulk of their heterotrophic nutrition - and those of us who feed our tanks nothing regularly can be pretty sure they are indeed eating away...just like they do in the wild.
Cyclopeeze on the other hand ;) is about the only thing I ever directly feed them.

I feed my fish, what ever is left over from them during feeding or after feeding seems to work just fine for my corals.

yes, if you feed your fish not too lightly, the leftover should be good enough for the corals IME. This may extend the old tank syndrome of DSB tank from 4 to probably 6 years. well....

Not even close. ;)
They don't have thousands of little mouths for nothing.
