What to do with macros once the main plant dies but new ones spring up next to it?

The question is strangely worded, but what I mean is, for plants like PENICILLUS DUMETOSUS, or other similar shaving bushes etc that spring new ones up from the sand, what do you do with the older ones that die?

I got some of these guys from GCE and while the main plant grew just a bit when in my sand bed, they sprung up some new plants and the original one has turned white/brittle and is really just a stalk. So I assume it died. Do you guys pull this out? I tried moving it and its obviously connected in the sand to the new plants, so I'm afraid if I try to remove the original plant, it will disturb the new ones.

So whats typically done?
