there is actually a very strict, government regulated recycling policy regarding aquarium powerheads and you have to be very careful about disposing them... Usually the safest way is to chuck it in the trash lol sorry, just bored, and jose cuervo isnt helping with the sarcasm.
Always save the impellers if they are in good shape, always. You never know when you might need one or you can usually sell them. I usually save all the pieces and individually auction them one by one on eBay. Individually they do not bring a lot but it adds up.
Often the impellers are bad and simply replacing it will revive the pump. If they are old cheap pumps, it may not be worth the cost to repair and into the trash it goes...
