I've got a bunch of used up kalk at the bottom of the barrel I mix it up in, what can I do with it?!? Is it safe to dump it in the sink??

That's what i've always done. I figured the box of pickling lime (which is the same thing) would have a warning if it wasn't safe for the pipes.

Mine is actually pickling lime (which is obviously safe to eat). My main concern was whether or not it would get clogged up in there, I have a lot to get rid of. I guess if I go a little at a time I should be good.

When my ATO buckets get to the bottom, I usually just rinse them and dump into the sink. Earlier this week I had a lot settled at the bottom and wasn't sure about dumping it straight in, so I poured some white vinegar in and then dumped it.

If the ph in your water is high it could solidify as calcium carbonate and leave deposits. I dump a little from the rinse but dump most of it in the trash .

Eat it!

But seriously, I don't think we put enough down the sink to cause any problems. That being said, I would hate to be the first to have to replace my plumbing. If you extremely worried just pour it outside, it has no negative effects on the environment right?

It's just lime.No environamental impact. I wouldn't put it on nice plants since its alkaline. nice to hear from my wife's home state. We visit often and have a place in Kitty Hawk on the Outer banks.

I dumped it all in the stationary tub in the basement, so not too much plumbing to travel thru. So far there haven't been any backups!! :D
